We’re gearing up for the 5th Annual 3-on-3 Pond Hockey Tournament • Iron Creek Classic on January 24, 2026 at Iron Creek Lake! This tournament has become a winter favorite and continues to grow right alongside our Chinook youth hockey program. As a 501(c)(3), this event is a huge fundraiser that helps us keep kids on the ice and moving toward a future permanent rink in the Northern Black Hills.

Our 2026 sponsorship opportunities are officially open. We’re grateful for your support of our skaters and our Northern Hills community. Connect with us at hockeyboard@chinookhockey.com for more information.

Our Chinook Squirt team took 2nd place this weekend at the Rushmore Thunder in the Hills tournament, and we could not be more proud!

Our Chinook Squirt team took 2nd place this weekend at the Rushmore Thunder in the Hills tournament, and we could not be more proud!

We played up a division, had only two lines of skaters while facing teams with much deeper benches, and battled through a set of back-to-back games yesterday to make it to the big one this morning. They pushed all the way to the end and finished the championship game with a hard-fought 9–11 score.

This is a perfect example of why we work so hard to bring hockey to the Northern Hills. Every mile, every late night, every practice, every piece of progress at Hillsview is for moments like this.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us, shared our mission, donated, volunteered, and believed in what youth hockey can become here. We would not be able to give our players these opportunities without you, and we are so grateful.

And a huge thank you to board member and supporter Gregg Fullerton for capturing these incredible photos of our team! (Families, check out

What a weekend for our program! Our PeeWee Travel Team is gearing up for their Inaugural Hockey Game, and this proud crew is ready to hit the ice. This is such a huge milestone for our young program and a moment we’ve all been working toward for years.

Last night, our Squirts took to the ice in Rapid City against a tough team from Colorado Springs… and they WON! Way to set the tone, kiddos!

Today, our PeeWees are excited and hungry to lace up and take on the Mitchell Marlins.

Good luck, boys and girls — play hard, have fun, and show them what Northern Hills Chinook is all about!

Grateful for our Giving Community Support

Wow… we are feeling so grateful tonight. The kind words, the support, and everyone sharing our story mean the world to our entire Chinook family.

Wow… we are feeling so grateful tonight. The kind words, the support, and everyone sharing our story mean the world to our entire Chinook family. We care so deeply about giving Northern Hills kids the chance to play the sport they love, right here at home, and this community continues to show up in the most incredible ways.

We want to take a moment to recognize someone who went above and beyond for our program this week.

A few days ago, Dan Abear of Spearfish commented on our Giving Tuesday post and offered to help us with our rink liner. Daniel owns Vindex Liners Inc in North Dakota, but his family calls Spearfish home.

Today, just three days later, Dan and Nate met Ted and Brandy to hand over a brand new custom made liner for our rink. The joy this brought our skaters, parents, coaches, and board members truly cannot be put into words. This kind of generosity is what makes our community so special.

Thank you, Dan & Vindex Liners, for supporting Northern Hills youth hockey. We are so grateful for you.

To top off an already amazing day, our Squirts (ages 9/10) played their first game of the year in a Rapid City tournament tonight and won. Our Peewees (ages 11/12) are headed to Mitchell for their first games, too! We are so proud of these kids and cannot wait to cheer them on through the weekend.

Chinook family, thank you for lifting us up. This momentum is real and it is because of you.
